This injection is used to relieve pain in the neck, shoulders, or arms caused by a pinched nerve in the cervical (upper) spine. A needle is guided to the painful area of the neck using an x-ray device called a fluoroscope. Once the needle is properly positioned near the affected nerves an anesthetic is injected into the foramen space around the nerves. This injection can be used to treat several conditions including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and radiculopathy.
